Impact

At the end of the  MFL Education  curriculum, we hope that students will leave Oaklands enriched in the following manner

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the world and their part in it
  • Value the culture of others
  • Express their ideas in another language
  • Interact in speech and writing with users of another language in a range of contexts and for different purposes
  • Have access to literature in the original language
  • Have the knowledge and skills to study and work in other countries
  • Have a curiosity for and enjoyment of other cultures and languages
  • Have the confidence and skills to learn other languages

Our department support students each year to achieve qualifications in their heritage languages. We enter students for GCSEs and A Level in a range of languages such as Portuguese, Polish, Italian, Mandarin and German, as required.

Many of the students who study A Level MFL courses choose to continue studying foreign languages at University, either as a full degree or as a module. Former Oaklands students frequently return to Oaklands  to share their experiences of university, their year abroad and subsequent careers. These students always tell us how well-prepared they felt in languages for life beyond school and how easy they found their language courses in the first year.

Most importantly, students frequently express their enjoyment of the lessons and the subject mentioning the quality of the teaching, the support and the opportunities from which they have benefitted
