Impact

As a result of the education received in maths at Oaklands we hope that our students will be enriched in the following ways.

  • Students are happy learners, who develop an enthusiasm for maths and an understanding of its importance in everyday life.
  • They experience a wide range of learning challenges and learn the suitable response to each of them. This allows students to become fluent in mathematical concepts and through frequent and varied practice over time, allows them to develop a contextual understanding with which they can recall and apply knowledge quickly and accurately.
  • Our students will develop a resilience and perseverance to seek solutions in problems that require them to go beyond their comfort zone. They can reason mathematically and develop arguments or justifications of proofs, by using mathematical vocabulary and terms with confidence.
  • The learning our students receive will gift them with the necessary numerical and financial literacy to be successful in later life. Furthermore, they will be able to use numbers and mathematical methods confidently in all lessons at Oaklands Catholic School, be that Science, Geography or technology.
  • Students will develop a deeper admiration for their faith as are able to relate what they learn to the world of Mathematics and develop a sense of awe and wonder. Alongside this, students will understand how mathematics is a universal language, in which difference can be celebrated and other cultures appreciated and understood.

As a core subject, a qualification in Mathematics is extremely important for our students’ prospects. Our intent outlined that we are preparing our learners for careers and jobs that have yet to be invented and having a mathematical qualification will allow our students to access any of these vocations in their future.

The impact of success in public exams allows students to go onto colleges, training courses and university placements in their desired field. Our students talk enthusiastically about their mathematical learning and are keen to develop this learning in the next form of education or training. Students from Oaklands have gone on to study Maths at the best universities in the UK
