Curriculum Impact

As a result of our Performing Arts curriculum we hope that students’ lives will be enriched by the experience  so that they

  • have experienced the joy of creative experiences and be able to express their creative ideas and respond to stimuli with authenticity.
  • have engaged in a broad range of practical activities enabling them to improve their own performance skills, self-awareness and self-discipline skills whilst developing their own artistic expression.
  • are  familiar with a range of classic and modern theatre texts and styles and a variety of musical styles and processes
  • can evaluate  the Arts within the context of Christian values and virtues.
  • have a good understanding of the cultural and artistic theatre landscape in modern Britain, and of their cultural and artistic heritage and have a good understanding of the historical, cultural, historical contexts which have impacted upon the development and creation of music.
  • will be confident communicators, able to present themselves effectively, creatively and with integrity in a range of contexts.
  • might enjoy and be able to eloquently express or debate their preferences for a range of styles of drama, theatre and music on stage and screen.
  • will have had an experience of staged drama at Oaklands and will understand how to choose, book and attend a range of arts experiences.
  • as citizens, they will have the confidence to ask and explore questions to further their Performing Arts experience and feel enabled to engage with and enjoy theatre and musical experiences.

In addition, many students perform very well in public exams both at GCSE and A level and go on to take Music, Drama or a Performing Arts related subject at a higher level.
Students from Oaklands have gone on to gain positions at conservatoires. Students from Oaklands perform on the West End  and are involved in production at a high level. When they have returned to Oaklands they maintain the experience in school was the stimuli to follow a career in performance.
