SUMMARY:A level Press release 17th August 2023
DESCRIPTION:Press Release Oaklands Catholic  School \nAnother high set  of A level examination results is today being celebrated by students and staff at Oaklands school\, with 100% of  students achieving at least one A level pass. The number of grades at A* or C stands at 70% \nMany subjects continue with a 100% pass rate including history\, English\, geography and RE\, reflecting the academic profile of subjects on offer. Many other subjects were equally successful.  Students gained places at top universities to study courses including medicine\, engineering\, maths\, English\, linguistics and law. \nHeadteacher\, Matthew Quinn said\, “the results achieved by Oaklands Sixth Form College Students were impressive. They are a credit to their hard work and that of our very talented and committed teachers. It has to be remembered that this cohort of students did not complete traditional GCSE exams because of the turmoil brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. The care and support students receive here is second to none\, even if that means some tough love along the way. The school continues to justify its strong reputation at Advanced Level. It is fantastic to see the progress made by many of our students from entry into Year 7 through to Year 13.The high grade profile achieved by our students will mean that the majority should gain entry to the university of their choice or employment and training.” \nFor most students this was the first set of terminal exams they experienced. Outcomes this year are more in line with 2019 results. The Government schools minister\, Nick Gibb\, made it clear that there would be a ‘grade reset’\, moving outcomes down from the highwater mark set over the pandemic. Students with a similar profile in 2023\, should achieve result similar to their contemporaries in 2019. Grade boundaries in some subjects have moved significantly this year in comparison with 2019 making it more difficult to archive higher grades. \nDave Godwin\, Head of the School 6th Form \, said that\, “the results are tremendous and reflect the high standards that we set for our students in the Sixth Form. Our students can be justifiably proud of all the hard work that has underpinned their success\, I am immensely proud of them all.” \n17 August 2023
